I was gonna give you a thorough review with a whole bunch of criteria and everything, but then I realized that was unnecessary. Only issue I have is that you should have let the last few notes decay for a bit longer, other than that it's really good.

I particularly like how you variations in volume and tempo, but that's a given in a solo piano song. What makes yours significant is that you did it well.

So 5/5 from me, nice bro!

pftq responds:

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it

Very emotional

Melody/Harmony: Beautiful, just beautiful, I can't even describe it.
Rhythm: I like how you abandon rhythmic structure in specific parts, really helps emphasize the emotion in this piece.
Instruments: Amazing choice, the instruments work so well together, they blend so effortlessly and contribute so well to the theme. IMO, the harmony and the instrument choice are the parts of this song that really pop out for me.

Overall, this is a REALLY beautiful piece, I love what I hear. I'm definitely downloading this. 10/10 5/5

That ever-present Garageband limitation

And this is how many fucks I give about that. As a person who still enjoys listening to old-skool nintendo vg tracks, this is quite perfectly epic. The strings sound excellent. I like what you did with the bass choir too!

Note: drums at the beginning remind me of the ghetsis theme from pokemon. That's a good thing, I did a song based off of that track.

I had a feeling I had heard this track a while ago

Didn't realize it was a few years ago lol. This review might be a bit incoherent, I woke up 30 minutes ago.

Melody/Harmony: I'm particularly fond of the string melody, I always have a soft spot for fast string melodies. Also, that piano sounds great!
Rhythm: The rhythm is quite unique, but that's why I like it. I can't put my finger on what it sounds like, but it works well for this song, particularly the mood you set.
Dynamics and Articulation: First of all, the synth work is AMAZING! Really like the glitchiness that 2:00, and how it connects to the section afterwards. I really don't need to say much about dynamics, you've always been excellent with that.
Beginning and End: Both excellent.

Overall, this piece is great. I will be downloading this and adding it to my mp3.
10/10 5/5 good to hear from you again, sorry about the collab dude, I had personal issues I had to go through, namely getting fired from my job. If you want to have another go, let me know. Just let me get settled in school first though :)

Gravey responds:

As always friend I'm honored you took the time to listen and review my latest submission. I would love to work on a collaboration with you sometime. Just let me know when you are ready for it.

You have to do something about the clipping

The main things that stick out for me is the clipping, and some mixing issues (the bass around 1:30 is WAYYYY too loud. Those issues need to be addressed first. However, melodically it isn't bad, although a slight bit repetitive at the beginning a bit.

Other than that, this song has plenty of potential. I'd get me some better samples though.

lanceaelot responds:

Yeah, I fully agree.

I was trying to get it to sound right for a while and I ended giving up out of frustration.

I was recording the majority of this live, so that is why it was hard to get the bass lower. I don't like using software to create orchestral sounding music, I find it rude to do so.

Beautiful!

The instrumentation in this piece is amazing. It fits very, very well with the theme you described in your comments, and the dynamics in this are, well, this is just top notch. This is probably one of the best songs I've heard in quite a while.

Melody/Harmony: Almost flawless, and for me to point out the small areas that weren't perfect would be an exercise in nitpicking.
Rhythm: Well, this song wasn't focused on that, but the melody carried the rhythm quite well, and it's a good rhythm.
Beginning and End: Perfect. Usually I can find one thing to criticize about either, but not this time.
Dynamics and Articulation: As I already said, you've done beautifully in both areas.

All in all, a solid 10/10 and 5/5, also a download and a favorite. Nice job!

sinequanon responds:

hey thanks for all the great reviews

Hmmm.....

Melody and Harmony- I don't know what it is about certain parts of the melody but it just seems random to me.
Rhythm- The strong point of this song. As the person below me said, the drums are nice, and the rhythm aspect of the bass line is quite good.
Instruments- Your instrumentation is great, aside from the string staccato. The string staccato just doesn't sound realistic to me, especially the lack of variation in length or volume.
Beginning- Very nice
Ending- Could be better, a bit too sudden. Not really climactic, if you ask me.

All in all, I have to give it a 7.3/10. The chords and melody really bother me, as well as that staccato. Other than that, this song is really good. The song does grow on you though.

It is a good fighting theme, and it would work. Perhaps I've been listening to too many oldskool VG tracks though, so I ended up losing an appreciation for the atonal.

Ironclover responds:

hmmm... well the end was too sudden for the fact that the idea was suppose to be bi-polar. you have a point there :o

But.. Honestly I'm not looking out for how good it sounds, and I always base my reviews on the blending of the song and how good it sounds, and then I would suggest some replacements for the chords, but I do agree with you on some degree but not completely, thanks for your review and time c:

Great choice of synths

I think your friend is really gonna like this song. Now onto the criticism.....

Melody- Very nice, especially when all the instruments come in.
Harmony- My favorite aspect of the song, I have a weakness for the chords you used here.
Instruments- As I already said, the synth choices are excellent. They blend together well.
Rhythm- Honestly, aside from the variances, it's kinda generic, but I wouldn't expect anything else from a hip-hop beat. And btw, just because it's generic doesn't mean it's not good.
Beginning- I would have liked a cymbal roll or something else to really lead into the main section but what you have there works quite well.
End- The end is fine, it does kind of end suddenly and I would have liked to hear a section without drums or very little drums at the end, but that's a personal preference.

All in all, 9.5/10. Nice man, I'm sure she appreciated. BTW, she better be more than a friend if you made this for her, if you know what I mean ;)

Review for a review?

Jumper responds:

Wow Thank you a lot for the review. It helps a lot! :D

In fact, she is just a good friend but when it comes to do something for someone, I try to do my best. :P

Thanks again!

Okay, officially faved

I seriously wish I could compose like this. Perhaps I've spent too much time listening to VG music, but I digress. This song is unbelievable. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to listen to this and download, I have to study this to learn your techniques.

sinequanon responds:

thanks! technique is a loose thing - figure out what you love in music, isolate it, understand it, make it part of you. and the bass line is always a melody (i've found that important...).

I'm not cultured enough to spot the reference

But I am familiar with music enough to spot an epic score, and this right here is epic. The mix of emotion in the piece is what gets me, it matches exactly with the scenario you described. The instrumentation is absolutely beautiful. The one single small complaint I have is that the ending isn't really "climactic". It doesn't bring closure, if you know what I mean. Otherwise, excellent work! 10/10 5/5!

sinequanon responds:

i agree about the ending - thanks for the kind words.

If you ever wanted to make high-quality music with low quality inexpensive shit, I'm the man to ask ;-)
