That was a nice thing to do

And you ended up making a damn good fucking song in the process. The only problem though is the Tuba. The timing of the Tuba is a little off on sections. Furthermore, the Tuba isn't blended with the rest of the instruments in the best way possible. It feels kinda out of place in certain place. And in other places, it seems like you forced the song out of whack just for the Tuba.

This has the potential to be a masterful piece, and it deserves it's place on the top of the Classical genre. The technical skill in this composition is pretty damn impressive.

Nice job!

sadlersongs responds:

Well the tuba sound I used is really heavy on the reverb so some parts sound a little behind. This is actually for solo tuba and accompaniment CD (which has the orchestra minus the tuba track) so it'll be spot on when it's performed. Glad you liked it! It's my first piece for tuba. More to come!

Cool as shit

Things I would recommend:

Turn down the high hats a bit.
Mix the saxophone a bit better. It sounds like several of them are playing at the same time, and if that's the case, it should be louder, or at least louder than that high hat that's going crazy. If it's just one sax, then definitely lower the reverb on the sax.
More caution with the piano melody. It sounds like it goes off-scale a few times in not-so-good ways. Other than that, the piano melody was damn good.

Other than the above-mentioned facts, this song is pretty good. Which is why I'm giving it a 9. The articulations of the sax were pretty sexy. The drums were pretty good, with the exception of that high hat. This song has plenty of energy. All in all, I like it very much.

SolusLunes responds:

It's two saxes, yes, and I did want the instruments to have a more "organic" feel, so they go a little off-scale a few times. :D

But what can you do? :D

Definitely happy

There's only a slight problem with the melody of the main synth. In the second half of the synth, when the root note is Eb, I noticed that the synth moves to F. That's pretty much the only problem in this whole song. And the second synth melody around 1:00 has a problem in the beginning of the progression in that it doesn't match the bassline. It's only a couple notes though. That's pretty much it.

Other than that, I can't really think of anything else. The song was pretty much good. However, this is not my genre of expertise, so the advice is limited. I hope I was at least a little helpful.

SigmaSpore responds:

yeah my second melody doesnt really fit right now, and i dont really know the "rules" as well as you do, so i dont know what notes would fit into a different melody, while still being able to move back to the first melody

lol you and your theory xD

thanks for review man, peace to the out

Lol MillsApparatus.....

Don't know whether to laugh or cry in response to that guy....

Nevertheless, there is something off about this song that I can't put my penis- er I mean finger on....so I'll keep listening until I figure out what it is.

Nice violin playing, it pretty much shits on my abilities at the stringed instrument.

I got what's off with the song! Many places don't have a clear bassline instrument, so what happens is it sounds like it's on a different chord than it actually is. You might do well by putting a soft Dbass staccato as the bassline.

Also, the choir might be a tad bit too powerful.

And that sums up my review pretty much. Good work, and keep it up!

EbonHawk7X responds:

thatnks for the helpfull review!

Hey man! Long time no see!

Sorry, but the highest I can give this is a seven. There's several reasons:

As said by the first reviewer, the instruments don't really get an opportunity to express themselves. They all kinda blend with one another in monotony.
And to add to the bit of monotony, there isn't much dynamics in this piece. It sounds the same volume throughout.
And the chord choice through the beginning was a bit overused. I hear that progression on many a song, and while it is a very pleasing progression, it doesn't make a person stand out as an individual artist.
Also, there may be too many instruments in the middle octaves. In fact, there may be too many instruments going at one time. It's usually good to have a clear instrument that carries the melody.
Another thing hit me: The lack of drums. This isn't a problem at all, but there's also no instrument articulation, so this may actually be a major problem. If there were drums, you could probably set these instruments as a kind of background ambience and have the drums carry the song the rest of the way.

But your saving grace is this:
Other than the first chord progression, the rest of the song is pretty alright, especially when the pianos come in.

I hope I was helpful in this review. If you need any more help, just shoot me a PM.

Viperodriguez responds:

Thank you for your input. I agree with much of what you had to say. I've been having a pretty hard time with this track for awhile. I just can't seem to find mood or inspiration make this what I want it to be. I actually did add a drum part, but I thought it emulated Ryan Tedder a bit. Reviews like is the reason why I submitted this tune in the first place. Again, thanks for the feedback.

Pretty good

The most significant thing I have to mention about this song is the detuned saw. You're really gonna have to apply some fine tuning on that because it changes the whole feeling of the song up to that point. Plus it's very overpowering. In addition, when the saw is fading away, it leaves some clipping behind.

Yeah, someone already mentioned the drums, so I'll say nothing else on that.

After that beginning with the telephone sound, around :29, it throws one off because the synth sounds so much crisper and even has reverb on it, whereas previously the synth sounded dry and old-fashioned. What I'm trying to say is that the transition between those two sections needs to be smoother.

The ambient section is great, easily my favorite part of the song, although it kinda knocks it out of the dance classification.

With the exception of the detuned saw section, I like the feeling I get from this song. It's weird, like kinda peaceful, you know? I could chill to the ambience of this song.

That sums up this review. Oh and could you do me a favor and check out my newest WIP, revolution II? Yes, I actually did end up recomposing that old song, I was surprised myself. Peace out bro!

SigmaSpore responds:

yeah i see what your sayin on the reeverb of the intro, that probly would have been better

i think i might go find some finetuning and edit this track...

ill check that track out asap

peace to you

Rock...damn.....

I know I'm gonna mess up something in this review because I don't know anything about Rock. It's the one genre I've never experimented with or even bothered to listen to often. (Or even occasionally lol)

But this song feels like it's missing something. It might be because most of the song is the bass and guitar. And furthermore, the guitar's short notes make the song sound kind of empty.

And the guitar does sound a bit weird, maybe more FX on it, that's a good way to get a nice-sounding guitar, especially if you're using FL Slayer.

I'm gonna leave it at that because, like I said, I'm stupid when it comes to rock music. But I can't leave without saying what's good about this song:

Acoustic guitar and the sections surrounding it. That was nice as hell, probably my favorite part of the song.

Drums, as always. Aside from the compressor messing with the snare roll a bit, they were perfect.

That cool effect with the bassline. I have no idea how you did that, but it sounds pretty cool.

Whew, it's late. I'm headin out. Peace!

FairSquare responds:

Lol, you don't HAVE to review if you think you can't say anything helpful :P
Not that you didn't say anything helpful though, the advice you gave is actually very helpful :-)
And i don't use FL Slayer, i use Nexus. FL Slayer is... well... not really usable for me :P
Thanks for the review! :D

Hellagood XD

Sorry it took me so long to review that I actually missed out on two of your tracks, been working on a new song, the WIP of which is already up.

This is a nice song, perfect for a kid's game or a T.V. show.

The best advice I can think of at the moment, and you might think I'm crazy for saying this, but try replacing that guitar sample with a saxophone. That's the #1 advice I can give you.

Other than that, the flute kinda blends in with the synth. However, it occurred to me that the current tuning of the instruments is the best tuning, so this might be the best choice musically.

Which reminds me, excellent choice of instruments. Absolutely excellent.

It gets a little bit crazy after 1:20 because a huge collection of instruments start playing simultaneously. However, that may not be too much of a problem since the guitar is still very audible, which at that moment is the most important instrument.

I believe that sums up my review. The intro and outro is nicely done, mix is good, drums are exceptional as normal, everything is in order. On to the next song!

FairSquare responds:

A saxophone?
I can try that :-)
Thanks for the review!

Nice! Creative!

Glad I came back after the two minutes of silence thing too, so that I can write my best review possible too!

I'll review this in parts.

Glitch
- Believe it or not, the voice clips sound like they're on the E note. Just saying that because when the next section comes along, it sounds like a sudden chord change. Other than that, nice slicing of the voice clip. It sounds sickening.

Hardstyle
- The timing of something is off. I can't put my finger on it, but I know something isn't completely timed right. But other than that, this section is top notch.

Ambient
- The transition has a little bit of clipping, although that might just be a result of the fadeout effect. Other than that, it was an excellent transition into and out of the section. And the voice in the background made for an interesting effect.

Jumpstyle
- There was an undertone that didn't match the bassline, and that messed with me a bit. But I don't know anything about jumpstyle in the least bit, so that could be how it's supposed to be. But otherwise, that section would be damn good too.

The thing that gets me about this song is that you went to four different genres and still managed to keep it pretty unified. That's the biggest plus for me, as well as the instruments in this one.

And sorry it took me so long to review, I've been busy the last few days.

SigmaSpore responds:

glitch- yeah its prety much impossible for me to match a glitch seciton with a specific scale or chord prog, i mean i could alter pitches, but there are alot of different glitch sounds i used so i didnt even bother

hardstyle- hmm idk what you might be hearing that would be off, i mean the three melodies dont flow together perfectly, i tried to just make one melody, then build, then build again on the next one, but i didnt keep to that with all three melodies, but i dont think it should cause to much issue, so idk what you might be getting

ambient- actually im sure there is a little clipping and im posative its from the filter fade, but i dont really know how to smooth out filter fade transition, any tips on that?, i know you might not do them alot in classical but you might know somthin
and yeah that voice in the background i think really kept it from getting too boring b4 the jumpstyle explosion, nice reeverb and delays...tasty...

jumpstyle- im almost 100% posative that i dont have a bassline in there, i mean i might have made one and forgot to delete it, but ive never heard a jumpstyle song with a bassline with the kicks, cuz the kicks are what create the bassline, and i cant check right now cuz i dont have speakers on this pc right now

im glad you think it all remained unified cuz i was actually worried that ppl would be like, omg cant keep focus on the song it just goes everywhere to crazy, so its good i got that all right

no problem on the long review time, doesnt bother me in the slightest :)

you got any tracks comin my way any time soon???

peace

This has the potential to be an amazing song

There's only a few things holding it back.

Reverb- not nearly enough. The lack of reverb is very noticable in the snares, which sound absolutely dry.
Timpani- Having it play A over again even when the bassline had moved to D was probably not a great musical choice.
Mix- Too many instruments in the same octave range. In particular, the section around and following :56, when the trumpet, violin, and organ are all playing at the same time, nothing stands out.
Ending- Way too abrupt.

But well done emphasizing dynamics and great choices. Those two are the main pluses on this piece. If those changes above are implemented though, you could have the next top30 song!

LacrimosaMuse responds:

wow, there should definatly be more reviews like this on newgrounds. I have actually worked on a new version of this song that im using as a theme for Cerberus in my Niburu soundtrack, and I'll definatly take the things youve said into consideration when im putting the final touches on it

If you ever wanted to make high-quality music with low quality inexpensive shit, I'm the man to ask ;-)
